Our hotel owners

Our hotel owners are Chardon Leisure Limited, Stardon Investments Sarl, the Chardon Hotel Growth Fund LLP and Bettagrade Ltd.

We provide services under contract to all four organisations.

Chardon Leisure Limited

Chardon Leisure Limited is one of the investment vehicles within the ownership of the Taylor family.

Maurice Taylor, who has been in the hospitality industry for over 40 years, began his career with British Transport Hotels, where he successfully completed an international management training scheme at prestigious hotels such as Turnberry and Gleneagles.

Maurice joined the private Arfamco group as managing director, where he ran a group of three- and four-star hotels before forming his own company, Chardon Hotels. This private group was built up from one hotel to a group of eight, before being sold to the Queens Moat House Group. During this period, he was chairman of Best Western Hotels (UK).

Maurice went on to develop residential properties in London, the Parklands Country Club in Glasgow and a hotel complex in Portugal. He and his family currently own the Holiday Inn Glasgow, the Express by Holiday Inn Glasgow Theatreland and the Quality Hotel at Edinburgh Airport.

CML manages all the hotels owned by Maurice Taylor and his family.

Stardon Investments Sarl

Stardon Investments Sarl is a joint venture created in 2005 by Chardon Leisure Ltd. (10%) and Starwood Capital Europe* (90%).

Stardon owns the Holiday Inns at Brighton, Corby, East Kilbride, Leeds Garforth and Norwich Airport, Best Western’s Moorside Grange and the independent Dunblane Hydro, all of which are managed by CML.

In addition to the normal range of management services, CML has been closely involved in managing Stardon’s refurbishment programme at these hotels and in managing Stardon’s cash flows to meet debt service requirements.

Chardon Hotel Growth Fund LLP

Chardon Hotel Growth Fund LLP is a closed-end fund created in 2006. The fund totals approximately £31m which is to be invested in five branded hotels in the UK limited-service sector. The Fund’s General Partner has entered, or will, into individual management contracts with CML for each hotel. The General Partner is chaired by Fraser Livingston**.

The fund recently bought the Express by Holiday Inn Dumfermline from its previous owners with the benefit of a management contract with CML.

The fund is currently developing the Express by Holiday Inn Edinburgh - Royal Mile and Express by Holiday Inn Leeds - Thorpe Park, both of which will be managed by CML.

Bettagrade Ltd

Bettagrade, a subsidiary of Hurlingham PLC (a small AIM company), has been the owner of the 81-bedroom Express by Holiday Inn Perth hotel since it was built in 1999. Hurlingham has a number of interests including residential properties in London.
